About the Author

Melanie Davis is a PhD student at the University of Washington School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences in Seattle. She spends half of her time working as a project coordinator for the U.S. Geological Survey. For the last three years, Melanie's career and graduate studies have been centered on ecosystem-based management as it relates to disturbances in coastal habitats. Her dissertation combines physical and biological data in restoring Pacific Northwest estuaries to assess prey availability for native salmon, including the ESA-listed Chinook salmon. This project has involved continued collaboration between tribal and government agencies, promoting long-term management strategies in estuaries that have already been negatively impacted by climate change.

When she's not crawling through the marsh, Melanie spends her free time backpacking, rock climbing, and exploring the Pacific Northwest wilderness.
